Dev Log - Production II
The past few weeks of production have been a bit slower for me personally, only really ramping up in the past week or so. As per usual I ended up working on some more assets, this time working on some animations to indicate when the robot is on lower fuel. We had noticed players hadn't been paying attention to the resource meters on the bottom of the screen so having the robot itself animate when its low on something should hopefully help players with that. I've just made it so it's eye flashes yellow when low on fuel and it leaks smoke when stress out, with the colours matching their respective resource bar. None of this is in the game yet, but I don't think it will be very difficult to include.
I had also began implementing some of the assets, mostly focusing on the conveyor scene and a few adjustments to the robots animations. The scene itself still needs some polish but testers seemed to think it looked good regardless. There's still a good chunk of stuff that's missing implemented assets as well, like aspects of the maintenance screen and most of the UI. Luckily we don't really need to create anything anymore in the art or sound department and we can be primarily focused on just getting what we have in.
I'm pretty happy with how everything's come together so far even if we haven't got to include a lot of our ideas from the planning phase in. Admittedly a lot of those smaller supplemental mechanics will probably end up getting cut in favour of refining our core stuff. I'm not really sure what's going to happen with our narrative but I suppose that's for the team to discuss. Regardless of what additional stuff gets in I think we'll still have a pretty solid game by the end.

Hello Jamie,
I appreciate how you're putting in different animations for the robot. From what I'm seeing, this will be a great addition to the final product since we do want to see different states of the robot indicating in what position it is at. The mechanics and layouts of the art assets are done which means they just need to be put inside of the Unity engine itself.
The narrative content may look like another thing that's missing but that will surely be figured out once the game is fully working in the game engine.
I can't wait to see what the final product will be like!
